hi all
i come from gw section of the site, i'd like to try out this game but would like some pro opinions first if possible plx :D
so uhm.. here are some questions:
how is the Ranger class? i always played it most in guild wars, because i love bow & arrows.. i have no clue how it is in this game, can u degen n stuff? pls tell me about it, is it also a good starter prof?
it's like world of warcraft right (i don't play it)? as everyone is walking around everywhere and if u kill something then how are the drops split up? do armor pieces drop from them too? is there actually armor u can craft?
what's the currency? gold and platinum? or silver bronze etc? are there like merchants where u can buy potions n stuff?
i heard there are like 3 different human proffesions or something, and each got their own individual clases or so? does ranger exist in all of them? are there certain different advantages of same proffesion in different races/clases?
do u buy weapons? do they drop? do u upgrade then? can u purchase all this from some npc trader?

I havent been playing as long as some on this section of GW; but some answers i can answer :)
- Armor pieces do drop from foes
- Crafting armor is done by people (or yourself) who have chosen the armorcrafting profession (kinda like WoW)
- currency is tin, copper, silver, gold
- Its an open world like WoW; so if you are outside a town its not like GW that you get your own personal map (except for the beginning of the game and tortage night which are single player missions/quests)
- weapons i do not know 100% yet; weapons do drop and i think there will be possibilies to upgrade when reaching a higher level. Though where i am there is not.

All 3 human races have the ranger profession as you can see.
As for ranger posibillities; you'll have to wait from an answer from either phe or lani =)

You may want to check on this thread made by Evil Geek when he was in your shoes. It has a comparison-to-other-games bit in there by me that some people seem to think was a rebuttal of their comparisons. :-)
Game is Instanced, but not like GW. Guild Wars took the instancing gimmick to its extreme. Most outdoor area's (commonly dubbed overland) are shared instances, so there's lots of folks running around. There's always two instances of each overland map. Normal & Hardcore. Area's where players tend to bunch up in droves (cities) generally have more instances.
In addition to the overland maps there's various instances (dungeons, castles, sewers) that are Solo, Grouped or Shared instances.
Ranger, being a ranged class (duh!) is one of the classes with a more conventional combat system (like you'd know from GW or WOW) but it still includes the real time melee effects as well. Ranger is a bit of a hybrid between melee and ranged combat in this game.
